"I would not recommend Melissa or any State Farm agency based on my experience during a total loss claim for my vehicle.

After my vehicle was declared a total loss, I had significant trouble getting any meaningful response from State Farm Claims, and delays and misinformation caused solely by them resulted in a delayed payment of 8 weeks, during which time they refused to pay for a rental car and I was left without a vehicle.

I understand that the local agent’s office is separate from the claims department and may not control claim decisions directly. However, I repeatedly contacted Melissa’s office by email and phone asking for help, escalation, or even basic guidance, and I did not receive a response. Ultimately, I had to file a complaint with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.

At one point, the office manager did answer the phone and indicated they could request a callback from Claims within one business day (that was not honored), but beyond that I received no meaningful assistance or follow-up. To this day, my emails and calls to the agent’s office regarding help in escalating my claim have gone unanswered.

The reason I had an agent was to have some level of support when something went wrong. In this situation, when I was dealing with a major claim involving tens of thousands of dollars, no drivable vehicle, and no response from the claims department, I felt completely unsupported by Melissa. In my view, an agent is someone who is there for their clients in times of need. Melissa simply acts as a policy salesperson and nothing more.

I am very disappointed in the lack of communication and follow-through; I immediately began searching for new insurance and cancelled my policies with Melissa as soon as I had coverage elsewhere, which turned out to be cheaper and better customer service as ranked by the NAIC website. I am a much happier customer now."
